[Year 12 SofDev] Starting SD for the First time Next Year

I too am doing SD for the first time in 2012(well sorta..been a lonnng time and a couple of study designs ago).

Also using AJ's text and eagerly await their arrival at any time soon. It is my plan to also have the students do some chrissy reading and prep for next year. Fortunately for me, the boys are already pretty cluey programming wise so I just hope to challenge them with some new ideas and concepts.



BTW, I love some of the youtube clips being posted to demo the sorting methods. The little robots and the hungarian dancers had me and a few of my colleagues or students who stared over my shoulder asking 'Whats that Kent???" and we had some smiles and laughs...

Would love some of these clips for the topics next year...that would be a hoot!!  And maybe re-enthuse other students about actually choosing this subject again!



Maybe will bump into someone from here at the iOS course at Swinny next week or the Android one the following week???



Bring on 2012...

Hello Ben,

I got my students to practice opening and saving text files for both sequential and random access files in VB.NET.

Since this is a major part of Unit 4 Outcome 1, by practicing it during transition week, we knew we would be able to do it when it came to the Year 12.

I also did Chapter 1 of Adrian’s book.

Hey SD Mailing list!

I’m starting up Soft Dev for the first time at my school next year. We have a week of transition coming up at the end of this year (a few weeks away and closing fast!). Just wondering what I should do with the students, I will get 3 double periods (3x100 mins = 300mins) with them, and they wont have the Text’s. I’m using VB.NET 2010.

Any suggestions on what would be a good idea to do in this transition time? What do other people do?
