Hiya guys,
Yes I am greatly concerned with the progression into VCE.
However, it is not all that bad at Shepparton High School.
I have had the luxury of completely re-writing the syllabus for 95% of all of the subjects in the school. So i have been able to tailor the content towards the various senior school subjects to give the students a good idea of what they could possibly have in the future.
We have a compulsory Year 7
2x48 minute sessions
After that it is all elective.
Year 8
3x48 minute sessions (general IT)
3x48 minute sessions (CAD)
Year 9
3x48 minute sessions (web publishing)
3x48 minute sessions (game maker)
3x48 minute sessions (robotics)
plus some other digital media which is a strong cross over with arts
Year 10
4x48 minute sessions (VB programming)
4x48 minute sessions (flash animation)
4x48 minute sessions (programming & electronics)
There is a fair bit of overlap into arts/technology in some subjects so i have not included them.
I am currently getting to the stage of contemplating scrapping the year 10 VB subject for something else as the year 11 IT does not come close to covering the programmng in the same level (when i last looked at it) and it seems a bit of an overkill.
But the same problem can and does occur where a student can enter year 11 IT with no more than 40x48 minutes (32 hours) of IT in year 7.
I don't know what the solution is.
Maybe the big wigs somewhere will start to see the difference between IT and ICT and how much students will use it in the future and encourage schools promote it.
Cheers,

Hi Russell.
Currently Sunbury Downs College offers ICT semester long electives in years:
7 ( not an elective (90 minutes a week))
9 (1 elective - Info Tech )
10 ( 2 electives - Webdesign & Programming )
I agree this does have serious implications, in fact I just had 2 students ask to do Year 11 ICT after not having done the ICT electives in year 9 or 10....
Not sure if that helps.

Hi all,
Currently at Box Hill High School
we have ICT as a one semester elective
in years 8 - 10. This have serious
implications for our course continuity.
Theoretically we can have students
attempt Soft Dev without having ICT
experience since year 7 (not a common
occurrence).
Is this course structure about on par
or are we behind the 8 ball in ICT ?
TIA
Russell Quinn
