We are a similar size to Shelly's school - 169. The rolls come to the
office every day after they marked in the afternoon. We don't have a
late book, but do have an early leaver's sign out book.
I enter the absences every day - as we only have 7 grades it takes very
little time. I also update absences from unapproved to approved as I
notice the "N" appear. I use coloured highlighters on the roll - which
can be pain to do, however, it is a very visual picutre of attendance.
We highlight green for late, pink for unapproved absence and yellow for
approved (also use yellow for early leavers - obviously approved). When
the "N" appears on a pink absence I then overwrite it with yellow. That
way I can see straight away whether or not I have updated the absence on
C21.
Its a little fiddly - OK in a small school - not sure a big school would
like doing it.

Subject: RE: [Busmanagers] RE: Collecting Rolls
Hi Chris,
Not sure of the size of your school but we have 162 students here. The
teachers only mark the roll twice a day, once in the morning after the
bell at 9am & then after the lunchtime bell at 2.25pm. Then once all the
rolls are marked the teacher will send the roll up to the office with 2
students.
When a student is late they are to sign in the late book at the office &
take a late notice to class with them which gets marked on the roll as
L. If a student is leaving early then the parent signs the early leavers
register & a signed note which goes to the classroom teacher, on the
roll it gets marked with an E in the 2nd half of the day. If a student
was or is absent & has handed in a note we put an N on the roll.
Hope this helps, would be interesting to hear others was of doing it.
:)

Morning All
We have a new Prin, and she would like me to investigate different
practices of collecting rolls/absences.
I know everyone is busy, but if you could jot down your school's way of
doing things, I would really appreciate your help.
We have had rolls delivered from the office everyday and collected every
afternoon by students since the year dot, and she would like to reduce
the time the children are out of class!
Thanks heaps
