Hi Roland

I've played with this before and yes I would be interested in doing
something collaborative

Don't have VCE or VET kids though (P-10 college)

I'm in melbourne next few days if you want to chat face to face - doing
a boring 3-day course on research methods for a masters

(I wrote an article for their cMap conference in 2006 on a flash based
concept mapping tool I've developed - (old version here
www.brainshapes.com )

Paper was accepted but I couldn't find a sponsor to get to Costa Rica!

Abstract below - I think the possible point of differentiation to cMap
is integrated RSS and search engine feeds - though cmap will no doubt
offer that at some point - and if it really is open source one could
look at adding it to the java code in any case)

"The development of a new concept mapping tool is described, emerging
from observations of educational use of concept maps and the potential
benefits of a streamlined approach to creating, publishing and reading
these diagrams online. The functionality of the new tool is described,
including the capacity to produce classic hierarchical concept maps with
annotated nodes and links, as well as the capacity to import and display
external data sources such as RSS feeds and search engine results. The
potential of the concept mapping tool be both a constructivist scaffold
and a web publishing tool is considered, and overlaid with observations
concerning learning and technology, which emerged during the
construction of the tool. These include the interplay of text and visual
forms, the role of iteration and the assimilation of complexity into
more generalized schema. Future directions that tap these some of these
trends are suggested."

So yes I'd be interested in looking at working on something with cmap

Cheers

Rob
