[Yr7-10it] Scratch comment

Not sure as to the suitability of Scratch for a VCE subject due to the requirements of the programming and type definitions etc. Yes its easy to use and learn, no arguments there, but, its also easy to get 'bored' with for the more challenged minds - I have found. Gamemaker seems to be keeping attention pretty well and the 'serious' programming students are getting into VB6 as it challenges them and satisfies the BOS requirements.

Hi Kerrie,

The first two modules I give them (my Yr 9/10 class) are the
"First Game" (catch the clown), and "Scrolling Shooter" tutorials
that come with GameMaker. I don't expect them to finish the latter as
it's a bit too verbose for most of them. After that I have two more
I wrote, which get the students to make more games with just a
general description of the goal and a collection of hints. I won't
share them just yet, as they are very unpolished. There are better
resources out there on the internet in general; I just wrote my own
to cater to my group's specific needs. Have a look at the web
resources others have posted. If I get time in the next few weeks I
might try to smarten mine up a bit and post them.

Cheers

Russell
