BDS Operates as the following

  1. All students in years 5-12 are BYOD, with 100% take up in one of the lowest SE areas in the state. We still have some older NSSCF laptops aorund the place which can be leased if need be.
  2. All students can bring in an optional second (mobile device) – from year 8 and above which connects perfectly to the schools network
  3. Year 7 are full 1:1 iPad also, giving them an actual 2:1 ratio with a laptop and iPad
  4. We have 30 iPads which can be booked out and used throughout the group
  5. We make this all possible flawlessly by using Google Apps for Edu, this ensure that’s regardless of the device a student rolls in with, everyone has access to a suite of tools that empower all aspects of the school. It also reduces software costs for students by an enormous amount
  6. If a students computer breaks or is under repair, they borrow loaner surplus machines from the library. They login with Google Apps accounts and work as if they were on their actual machine until the repair is completed

Happy to help people tackling this mixed environment;

Similar to our current setup we have student owned iPads now from 7 to 9 and Netbooks 10 to 12. Some draft plans to replace the netbooks with iPads and permit some "bring any device” at year 12. We have a standard DEECD network and the iPads and Nebooks work fine. Feel free to call to chat. Keysborough College.

Hi All,

I am just after some opinions from people. Our school (secondary, 1000 + students) currently have a 1:1 netbook program for 7-12 students. We are considering moving to Ipads for BYOD from next year. This would mean that we have a combination of IPads and Netbooks. Can I ask others that may have the same set up, how well it runs from a network set up point of view?

Thanks

Mandy Holmes
