'Steve' is up and happy, but his offspring(the workstations) are not yet spawn! Patient is still alive but the doctors are a bit worried about his health as they arent sure if he has all his 'bits'.(He has no DHCP addresses and he is having trouble getting his fingers working...but he has a heartbeat!

I did say it would be a bit of fun....we are having a great time trying to figure out what works and what dont!

Cheers.

Like yeh right!!! Too Kool Kent!

The server version of Ubuntu comes with LAMP (presuming you enabled it on install) so you should not have to apt-get and install Apache, MySQL or PHP.

Also you can install the Ubuntu workstation version over the top of the server version so you have a GUI if you are not familiar with the bash commands.

WUBI??? Kent there is this thing called the Internet, and another thing called Google...it is wonderful for finding info on all manner of things!!! lol

Sorry it has been so long between posts...

Congratulations and Good luck Kent, see/talk to you soon

Cheers
Ros

Great! Now you've set up an Ubuntu server you can fill in a form and ask the
IT people to open it up to the WWW! apt-get install moodle drupal postfix
mysql php5 etc. Then - and this is fun - go to the Cmap Tools web site,
download their server software and set up a college-wide concept mapping
server for collaborative planning by teachers and students. Enable ftp and
ssh and you've got a live web server your kids can manage. The sky's the
	limit!

Just for the heck of it...coz we could..I arranged with our techie here and
grabbed a small number of 'old', not now in use, machines we had and
attempted to load the UBUNTU server software on one to hopefully, set up a
mini-network with my Unit 2 kids. It relates to the network outcome so I
	figured its a good idea!

Success! We got the server running! Today, our challenge is to try and get
a couple of workstations attached via a switch we also had!

The boys enjoyed it, and so did I !

Will see how we go...(no manuals or experts involved here, we are figuring
	it out as we go!)

Oh, we called our server 'Steve'..one of the boys suggested it and well, why
not!(a bit of fun never hurt)
