PHP is one of the options I am considering for next year too. However, I am potentially doing it at perhaps yr9 or 10 level depending on a variety of factors. Still waiting on the boss's response to a proposal for next year's IT stuff and will then know what's the go! Also hoping to run some dual/multi platform workstations to spice things up.
It is looking likely that here, we will have just a unit 3/4 as a merge of the 11's and 12's due to numbers, nothing confirmed as yet...
ahhh, planning, yu gotta luv it!!

Subject: [Yr11 Information Technology] PHP for Unit 2
Dear List,
I would like to have a go at having next year's Year 11s learn PHP.
I am interested to hear from others how they are going about this.
I am thinking I will use a WAMP package (Apache/MySQL/PHP bundle)
to streamline installation. I do have a machine here I'm going to set
up as a linux server but I'm apprehensive about giving out accounts on
it, hence the standalone option. For people using WAMP, which one are
you using?
Has anyone used the PHP integration in Dreamweaver? They will be
using Dreamweaver (MX 2004) for web pages so I thought it might make
for a smooth transition, but I haven't yet tried it myself to see how
it works.
What about PHP frameworks such as Zend Framework--does anyone use
those for Unit 2 IT or is it better to keep it simple?
While I'm at it, seeing I will be setting my MySQL anyway--is anyone
using MySQL (perhaps with a nice web management interface) for the
database topics in Unit 1 or IT Apps Unit 3? I think it may be too
tricky for many of my kids but thought I would ask the question in any
case.
