[vet-mm] Graphics Tablets v2

We have a set of six Intuos 2 Wacoms. I think I got them through Edsoft on a=
n education special. They are 6X8 which I think is a good size for the class=
room. Kids like to use them on a bit of an angle a la a drawing board, and o=
ften have them on their lap or resting on their non-drawing hand. I original=
ly bought one 9X12 but found it too big to use like this. One thing I have f=
ound is that students need a lot of encouragement to persist with them past=
 the initial awkward phase. Once they become adept they love them, particula=
rly the natural drawers.

I have a Graphire4 that's 6x8 and love it dearly.  The Intuos3 is out of my=
 price range, unfortunately, but I admire them from afar.

I bought mine from citysoftware.com.au (who are good, so long as an item is=
 in stock).  If you're after a noname one, try a computer swap meet - I saw=
 a 6 by 8 one for $100 there.

They all seem pretty competitive - I used Computers Now, an Apple store here=
 in Geelong. The same model works on Mac or PC.
Believe it or not, a guy I work with picked up a no-name tablet at Aldi (yes=
, Aldi) for $70 and he's pleased as Punch.

With the Wacom you can go for a 4x5 or a 9x11 size from memory - it depends=
 how you work but I'd go for the bigger one if you can afford it. It's the s=
ame principle as clearing a bit of room on the desk to use the mouse; you do=
n't want to be bumping into the edges.

A Cintiq runs into 1000's of $ - that's the one that is effectively a monito=
r you draw on - I've used one and its great, but the cost.
I use a Wacom tablet and purchased another this year for my son - I recommen=
d these - excellent quality at a reasonable price.
Prices vary depending on size and model - can't remember exactly what I paid=
 - I think it was about $128 on special educational pricing - that was a sho=
p special too.
