Hi Paul,
We use a Roland MDX20 mill and find it very useful. My Year 10 - 12
classes design PCBs using PCB wizard and then export the design into PCB
Design and Make. PCB design and Make runs the mill very well. I suggest
using a 60 degree engraving bit. In the past I have used an EGX20
engraver and found this a little more difficult because it has to sense
the board with a touch sensor and the sensor can get clogged. I have
also used the free DR engrave that comes with the mill and found it to
be a right pain! However, if anyone needs to use DR engrave because of
the ridiculous price of PCB Design and Make I can pass on a few tips.
I have found Scorpio Technology in Adelaide quite helpful in setting up
the system.
In Year 10 I make an amplifier based around the 386, with thanks to
Neville Young for the idea.
In Year 11 my students make a circuit of their own choice including some
Picaxe. And again in Year 12 my students make a circuit of their own
choice including some Picaxe.
Hope this Helps.

We are looking at purchasing a Roland Mill and would like to hear from
anyone who has one or used one.
We would specifically be interested in the software you use and how
easy/ hard it is to use and any
other advice you could offer. We would like to be able to use it across
years 7-12, if that's possible, and would be interested in the types of
projects that you do with your students.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
