Dear colleagues
Last week ACARA released the draft Technologies Learning Area curriculum for consultation. This document comprises the draft curriculum for two 'subjects' as well as an introduction to the learning area. The two curriculum areas are:
* Digital Technologies (years F - 10)
* Design and Technologies (years F - 10) .
In accordance with the consultation process for previous Australian Curriculum documentation, educators can provide feedback directly to ACARA via its website and/or educators can participate in a consultation session organised through the VCAA. It has been Victoria's practice to submit to ACARA a consultation response representing the views of the three sectors (government, Catholic and independent).
The VCAA will shortly advertise a range of consultation sessions including face-to-face and online, using Collaborate. These sessions are a combination of 'information giving/clarification' and opportunities to provide feedback on the proposed curriculum.
It is very important to note that we are on the brink of significant developments in our field. In addition to ICT being treated as a general capability (using ICT to learn) there will be a curriculum that focuses on students learning about ICT/digital technologies, with a focus on computational thinking - Digital technologies.
Your feedback on this draft curriculum would be greatly valued. If you want to respond directly to ACARA you need to register and access the questionnaire and curriculum at:
http://consultation.australiancurriculum.edu.au/
I'm also attaching the Technologies learning area curriculum that includes both Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies. I will inform you next week of VCAA's consultation schedule if you wish to participate online or in person.
Consultation on this curriculum concludes on 10 May.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
Regards
Paula
