hi All
I have moved my reply to the eLearning List
I have been grappling with defining this job --> I have stripped the formatting out of this but here it is
so far:
Aim:
To improve the use and delivery of eLearning in the College
By:
Building staff confidence with use of our 1:1 iPads
Helping and supporting staff through the changes that iPads are making to learning in the classroom
Working with staff to embed the use of the iPads into their curriculum
Working with staff to ensure that iPad use, ICT and eLearning are learner focussed, curriculum justified and effective in achieving the goal of educating students in a Catholic context
Providing personalised teaching and learning opportunities for staff to improve their skills in ICT
Focussing staff on the opportunities that iPads provide to deliver personalised learning for students and collaborative learning opportunities for students and staff
Facilitating staff being able to transfer their current and new skills into the changed pedagogical practices that 1:1 ICT and iPads are creating
Working to help staff engage students in purposeful learning where the 1:1 iPads are an effective tool in improving thinking, analysis, evaluating and creation skills and not merely a “content” recall device
Leading staff to understand how 1:1 iPads and personalised learning can improve teachers’ and support staffs’ responses to multiple intelligences learning needs and help students to develop those areas of multiple intelligences in which they are weaker
Making more and more use of interactive learning materials (1:1 devices mean that students can individually work with interactive materials)
Facilitating students (and teachers) developing materials that can be used on the 1:1 iPads (e.g. Quizlet as a 2011-2012 example)
Establishing a shared vision across the whole staff of eLearning and the possibilities inherent in its effective implementation
Using eLearning to facilitate innovation and excellence in teaching and learning practice, to facilitate engagement and to encourage deep, powerful learning in both staff and students
Changing student expectations of the actual use of ICT and 1:1 iPads in the classrooms
Using 1:1 iPads and ICT to improve the timeliness of reporting and assessment
Method:
Create a small group of staff whose shared vision includes the above and more and who are responsive to change, changing needs, aware of people and who can communicate well with both adults and younger people.
This group must be able to teach adults and help adults learn.
This group should contain people from a number of different areas within the staff knowledge base
This group must contain at least some people with
modern pedagogical practices
change management experience
some technical knowledge
client side perspective (the ability to understand what the client really wants and needs – not just what they think they want)
design side perspective (the knowledge and ability to know what can be done with what we have available)
the desire to facilitate not impose
Also
We need a clearly articulated eLearning plan, effective eLearning strategies, support from leadership
That is where I am going!!

That can involve networking knowledge, hardware etc or it can be in collaboration with a network manager. It depends on resources and expertise. It is non linear in that learning does not follow the same sequence for everyone. Also, elearning is not just digitization of content or using text books in electronic form by converting them to pdf and calling it elearning. It has to include higher order thinking , the problem solving methodology ( however number of stages you wish to use ).
