[Year 12 SofDev] Flowcharts

This is a very good example of illustrating the meaning of specifically listed items in a key knowledge compared with a generic key knowledge statement. For example, in Unit 3, outcome 2, there is a specific list of methods of expressing software designs. This means that specific questions can be asked on the examination on any of the items listed, however, for school-based assessment you can include other methods such as flow charts. In Unit 4, the key knowledge is just 'methods and techniques of expressing software designs' , which again means for coursework purposes you can use whatever methods you like, but for the examination no specific questions can be asked on flowcharts, however, if a general question arose which allowed the student to use a software design tool of their choice, and it was suitable, then they could use a flowchart.

So, in a nutshell, there cannot be any questions on the exams specifically requiring students to demonstrate their knowledge of flowcharts.

Subject: [Year 12 SofDev] Flowcharts

Dear All,

I have scoured the Study Design throughout the year and tried to make sure that as a first year Software Development teacher I cover everything. However I have a question on the Insight practice exam (Question 8 of the Case Study section - Not sure that I can post it here due to copyright) that gets students to complete a flowchart. It is worth 4 marks so by no means a small question. As far as I am aware, flowcharts have been removed from the Software Development Study Design and a design tool, or are we still expected to teach them?

Any help or advice would be most appreciated!

Cheers and have a good break

Trav
