[Year 12 SofDev] ER diagrams v data structure diagrams for 2011

Hi all,
I've pulled out a discussion point we had at the end of the year about the differences between 'data structure diagrams' and 'ER diagram', needed for Outcome 2
And as Mark K rightly pointed out during this discuaaion there does not seem to be a 'standard' as such, and I have resorted to 'Wikipedia' as the source of knowledge. I have even gone back to old Uni books with no luck. Lots of talk on 'data modelling' and then using ER diagrams to do it but trying to find a definition as such to start putting some notes together.
Has anyone been able to source something or are we going with a data structure diagram that 'highly resembles' an ER diagram? Because ER diagram are one data structure diagram method, I think.
I did find this mind map as I was searching this evening, which visually at least cleared a few things up (if it is in fact an accurate mind map) (note: each of the green arrow will make that term the centre of the mind map)

Hi All
Going back into a past life an ER diagram was simply created to establish the entities and relationships that exist in what would become a relational database. No detail was required with respect to each entity other than a name. The DSD on the other hand identified all of the fields within each entity, the key field/fields. The relationships were indentified as being one to one, one to many etc ensuring that the model created was indeed relational and that a working RDB could be created.
I will go through my old resources to see if what I used is still available. If successful I will pass the details on to the list.

In the study design for 2011, a KK includes data structure diagrams and ER diagrams. Looking on the Web for some help, it appears they are similar and perform similar functions. Perhaps the ER diagram is a subset of the data structure diagram. Haven't fully grasped this yet.

ER diagrams are found in ITA in 2011.

So, can someone supply a way to differentiate the two? Or even websites for examples?

thanks

Maggie
