Apologies for the off topic post.
I was just reading the June 08 issue of APC and came across the article
on arduino. Maybe useful for robotics and programming.

flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists,
designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive
objects or environments. "

It really looks like an interesting piece of software even if the site
is a little hard to deal with.
IT is also open source. Seems the only cost is actually getting the
controller boards themselves but they seem to range in price from $17 to
$171 for the Bluetooth version.
