Hello Lisa and Others,
I'm from NSW and we have a similar course to the
Software Development VCE. I've used VB4, VB6 and
VB.Net in our Yr11& 12 course. I've changed over
to Python since it demonstrates the use of OOP
much easier than VB.NET. It allows me to teach
procedural, OO and functional paradigms using the
one environment. There are several texts that
teach the course outcomes along with the syntax of
Python.
Have a look at 'PYTHON PROGRAMMING: An
introduction to computer science' John Zelle ISBN
1-887902-99-6. The text starts immediately with a
functional approach and then introduces the basics
of OOP using a GUI environment. My students have
scored well over the last two HSC exams but only
marginally better than the VB.NET students of past
years.
Have a look and see what you think.

Sorry everyone! The date for the second VCE IT

Thanks for pointing the error out Glynis, Kent,

attentive to detail than I!)

Lisa
