[Year 12 SofDev] Hardware Operation/Software components question

Two key knowledge bullet points in Unit 3 Software Development talk about hardware/software components as outlined below.
 
- Functions and characteristics of hardware and software components, including security devices available to protect data and information.
- Principles of hardware operation essential to the development of software modules.
 
I'm unsure of what they are really talking about. Is it referring to computer architecture (the insides and workings of a computer)?? Or is it referring more towards high level IPO?? I would have thought computer architecture is covered in Year 11.
