[Opensource] Thin client....very cheap computing!

Hi Peter
For printing we simply allocated one spare printer to that area and hung
it off one of the thin clients. The only minor issue is that client has
to have been turned on and communicated with DHCP for it to work. As for
wider network access we sort of made a virtue out of a necessity in that
we actually didn't want them to have school wide network access, so they
just have storage on their own server and no access to any shared or
mapped drives.
The primary function of this network was to provide word processing and
access to web 2.0 tools so really school wide network access was
redundant. However if you install Samba (I think it comes in
Ubuntu8.10...we used 8.04) you can certainly get Linux to see and access
the network drives. Bearing in mind though there are some non
interchangeable file formats!
