[Moodle] An open education vision for 2020

Every day at my school there is a notice at the top of the bulletin in bold,
16pt type that shouts: No Mobile Phones in this College!

Whoops, back to the real world.

There have been discussions on some of the other lists
http://lists.luv.asn.au/wws/info/edu-sig about the large 10" touch screen
technologies about to hit the scene .. in fact I reckon that they will
overtake the current Netbook fad (now I am sticking my neck out) .. Like you
Laurie, I am sensitive to issues related to readability with smaller
screens.

Crikey, even Ubuntu Linux Desktop has the drivers for touchscreens.

and the future OLPC model XO2 will embrace this technology with a very
robust build, low cost and weight.

if you like books, of course there is the LifeScribe technology that I have
seen talked about at Monash Uni.

Now, imagine a mash of this portable technology in the hands of a child and
the freedom that they will have to carry and create.

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry, but I hate my mobile phone and I hate my son's iPhone. I don't
like the style of input, which I find slow and cumbersome, and while I'm
comfortable with 11pt screen fonts, my eyesight is quite poor so a mobile
device screen is unfriendly. I like having a large screen with two or three
apps open simultaneously so I'm happy using Outlook and One Note for my
administration. For me, and I suspect others with failing eyesight,
usability trumps size every time.

(Oh! and I don't, and do not ever intend to, own a Kindle - you can't
physically flip the pages to find the quote you annotated ten years ago or
the marginalia your friend added when you last lent them your copy of "<add
your favourite title>". And nothing beats new book smell ... except maybe
for old book smell!)
