Yes, logging in locally works, but there are still situations where the
OS will want to defer to the Domain regardless. It's part of Microsoft
by trying to be too helpful (or thinking they know what's best). Not
that it would apply to the majority of teachers, but if you have a
network at home (even just peer-peer) there will be all manner of issues
with shared resources, because the laptop OS knows that it's really a
domain member.

Thanks Chris. Can the user not log in locally to the laptop for stand
alone ?

Better stand alone - setup with workgroup name same as domain. Our tech
has set up log in scripts with various network settings which only kick
in when logging in to the network so that teachers don't have issues at
home.
If notebooks are domain members, teachers will have issues with
administrative rights when trying to add a printer etc at home. Even off
the network, the notebook knows it's a domain member and will seek
domain authentication for some things at home. Not pretty.

Hi all. This may not be the right place for this question but do all
staff notebooks have to join the school's domain or are they allowed to
be stand alone.
Thanks
Alan
