[Moodle] Moodle 1.6 - anyone leapt in ?

Hi Con,

 You make a valid point ....particularly about the lifespan. 

My research suggests that at the end of the day the kernel and utilities are still the same .  
Also, I am led to belive that usually with any "enterprise" distro of Linux you don't get the latest cutting edge versions
- they tend to use the more mature versions (slightly older but stable versions).

However, you have opened my eyes to these options and I am willing to dig deeper to find out more about the service lives of these distros.

I'm curious. 

Why FC5? 

It's fine for a desktop, but has some shortcomings as a server platform.

The key one being shorter support lifespan. 

Why not one of the free Red Hat Enterprise Linux distros, which are
source and binary compatible with RHEL 4+ and have 5+ years of
guaranteed support coverage? 

For instance:

All free ISO downloads and totally open source, like FC5.
