Hi Vera for this year we are sticking with the previous legislation. The new study design includes the changed law.

HI Paula
I know this is off track but I was wondering if we are using the new Privacy Legislation or the old as I thought that there would be an erratum but I could not find one.
Thankyou Vera

There are two categories of software tables in the revised study design, and they appear at the beginning of each unit.
When a software tool is included in the ‘study and use’ table it means that there is a direct key knowledge related to the software, and the knowledge and skills associated with that can be assessed. For example ‘functions and techniques within a RDBMS to efficiently …’ (Informatics, U3O2). Here students must be assessed on their skills with this software.
Whereas if the software is in the ‘use’ only table, then there is no related key knowledge to it, hence proficiency with the tool cannot be assessed, just the evidence that is presented through the use of the tool. An example is Informatics Unit 3, appropriate tool for documenting projects plans. A key knowledge relates to project management concepts and processes, so while a tool is used to create a plan, what will be assessed is the quality of the concepts and processes that are displayed in the plan, (e.g. milestones and time allocations) not the technical finesse with which the student used the tool.

My understanding after the online seminars is that if you are required to study a tool then you must be sufficiently familar with that tool to answer exam questions on it.

Hi, lotus eaters.
The 2016 study design lists software tools for each unit. For some units (e.g. U3O1) students are required to "both study and use" certain tools. In other units (e.g. U3O2) they are "required to use, but not required to study" certain tools.
I'm not clear what "studying" a tool implies for assessment and teaching.
What difference does studying a tool make?
Mark
