I did not. Well I probably did but I did not extend my thinking that far never had to use Google sites for testing students. My Investigation continues. :)

Thanks.

Ben.

Hi Ben
You do realize that you can make Google Sites managed by yourself; locking the editing down outside of school hours etc

Use PageMeister

Thanks for the replies everyone.

The reason why I suggested Google Sites is because my students already have access to a google account with all the education accounts so I don't have to worry about any installation problems. And we can get around the lack of forms issues in Google Site by creating a from in G Forms and embedding it into the site.

Although Woodpress looks like an interesting option with the USB server that Brett suggested, it will be easier to manage work during SAC's, the google option is accessible outside of classes. Of course I still need to make sure that I tick all the VCAA requirements.

The reason why I am looking at CMS is because my students don't have access to Dreamweaver, they have access to Microsoft Expression Web 3 which is not a nice program to use and straight html coding is not an option with some of my students next year.

Do we really need CSS if most small websites use CMS that have plenty of pretty templates to use.

Cheers,

Ben.

A problem with CMS like Wordpress might be installing the software in a school environment.

Hi Ben,

If you want to use a CMS you're better off using WordPress, you can meet all the VCAA skill requirements pretty easily but still actually have a website that functions rather than one that just looks nice. The MySQl aspect of it too can be helpful with databases in subsequent SACs and you can run it up easily in on USB using USB webserver V8 or one of that ilk. Just a thought Cheers.

Hi All,

Just wanted to get peoples opinions on using Google Sites as a web authoring tool for outcome 1 of Unit 3. Has anyone thought about using it or tied using it for that outcome?

Cheers,

Ben.
