How about people just install different web browsers on USB drives and run directly from that. That is how we will be solving our issues, most web browsers allow this

You're probably right. The testing of a prototype would necessarily be less complex than that of a real site, but it still needs to be tested to ensure it fulfils its (limited) role.
I guess that cross-browser testing may be wise if the prototype needs to be displayed on different people's computers with different browsers.

Just a query. Aren't we getting ahead of ourselves here?
Prototype websites are more about intent than actual functionality. It needs enough functionality to explain the developers' intent and could and usually is produced with wireframes.
We are telling students that it is ONLY a prototype, so why should it be necessary to test it on multiple browsers. The design consideration is that the developer should target a variety of browsers but shouldn't this be a consideration that can only really be tested, hence implemented in the full development phase? Which of course is impossible to achieve within the SAC environment.
The browser in this instance only really acts as a tool to propel the prototype and provide the sense that it runs on the web.

Hi,
it's the only browser we have so I guess we don't have much of a choice.
We probably should have others to better test the websites.
When I next bump into the techie, I'll ask him why we don't have others.
Our Ipads have Safari so maybe we can get the websites onto the iPads.

Mark,
I think you answered your own question - Seriously, who would use IE by choice?!?!?!?

Only IE?
Is this by choice?

Hi Kate,
my students don't have access to multiple browers. We only have IE and that's all we use.

Hi,
I know from the study design that students need to understand that websites can appear differently in different browsers. During the sac do your students have access to multiple browsers to test their websites on?
Cheers,
