Hi All,

Could someone address Mark Scott's other comment that drop down lists are inappropriate in tables?

I'd assumed we could credit drop down lists in tables for validation purposes, since forms are not mandated in this study for unit 3.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, since I've been merrily showing my kids how to do that and would hate to have to penalise them now :)

Thanks,

HELP!!!!!!!!

>From VCAA
Relational database management system
The following functions apply to Unit 3:

*        create tables

*        create relationships between tables

* use a range of data types

*        electronic validation

* create, edit and use queries

*        use of calculated fields

* sort records or index on different fields.

Can someone confirm that:

* formatting (apart from sorting) is not a part of this SAC?

* drop down lists are not appropriate for tables (only forms)

Hi, OtherMark

Formatting is not important to this outcome, but it is assessable if RDBMS is used for U4O1...

*If students use a relational database management system in Unit 4, the following additional functions apply:*

   - *import/export of data*
   - *format data for display*
   - *create and edit a range of forms, including different data types and
   controls*
   - *create and edit a range of formatted reports.*

Hi all. A minor quibble or two about the wording in the Assessment Handbook for ITA U3O2 task 2 (page 15): "Techniques for acquiring data via websites are technically feasible..."

It could mean techniques used by the *public* to acquire data from websites, or it could mean techniques used by the *website operator* to acquire data by using their website.

I've been assuming it meant the latter, because one of the KK is "techniques used *by organisations* to acquire data on websites".

Also the use of "individuals" to mean "website visitors" and "organisations"
to mean "website operators" can be unclear. Many individuals have websites. It would be better to identify them as visitors and operators respectively.

Cheers
