The students would build a prototype and not use something like blogger.com. During their learning students would critique blogs created using these tools, to determine what features they like and don't like about the different offerings, but at the end of the day they must design and create their website. Obviously key features of a particular type of website would be present, but where possible, students would 'build' it themselves. Remember that in their solution students must demonstrate some or all of the software functions listed in the Bulletin. For learning purposes students should develop skills in all of the listed functions, but for assessment purposes you can restrict/nominate set functions you expect to see applied.
I hope this clarifies matters for you.
Regards
Paula

Paula
I'm still a bit confused.
If the best solution to the case study was a blog or a facebook type environment would the kids have to build a prototype of these ie build a blog code and all OR could they use www.blogger.com <http://www.blogger.com/> or a www.ning.com and shape that into their prototype solution?
Cheers

The students have to create a 'prototype' website that meets the needs of an online community. In the July Bulletin a list of approved types of websites was published. This means that when students respond to a scenario provided by the teacher about a particular online community - it can be a social, project/interest-based, word-based one, they should determine and create the most appropriate type of website from the following list. Types of websites include: blogs, chat rooms, forums, social networks, wikis. It may be possible, depending on type of website, to create a fully functioning website, however, all that is required is a prototype one. Just creating a 'normal' website to support the activities of an organisation does not meet the requirements of the outcome.

Paula

Just a clarification.
In the new study design do the kids have to 'create' a collaborative/social networking site or do they just have to use/mock one?
