[Year 12 IT Apps] social networking sites(facebook etc)..

Your best bet would be to use the Ultranet, as it incorporates elearning
with social networking facilities (though due to privacy issues, students
don't have a "wall" anymore - I guess they don't trust their "secure online
portal" enough? ;) ). Otherwise, I'd use a ning.
It would be hard to analyse/evaluate the true use and impact of social
networking sites - any interference of observation/monitoring by a school or
teacher or selected students in say, a Facebook group would automatically
change the behaviour of students using it. Moderating has a way of
restricting freedom of thought and speech. You can do it without them
knowing but that leads to privacy issues.
I'm not sure what my point is or if I'm making any sense - I haven't had any
coffee yet ;)

Fascinating .. has anybody else use Diaspora?
On a different slant, has anybody else set up a Facebook page for their
school? I have an idea that it may be similar to what many here have done
with Wikipedia. I am in non hurry, the school secretary can tip-toe across
this line .. just looking for some pointers that can be passed on.

Thanks for that.
Cool, and spooky! Works fine in Firefox 3.6.8.
