Hi Damien,

 

I don't know the answer to this - but I would personally be very surprised
if email had the same status as a signed document!  Email has big
limitations in terms of security and identification (well 'limitations' is
an understatement), so in a court of law, there would no certainty at all
that an email was sent by a particular person.

Hi folks,

            I've been asked to have a look at a friend's email policy - the
preamble into it got me a little flustered and I'm just trying to work out
the legitimacy of the statement "Email carries the same legal status as a
signed letter or memo." I've had a look in the telecommunications act and
the postal act but cannot find it. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows
if this statement is pure smoke or not.
