[Year 12 IT Apps] Student Exam Preparation Day 2010

Hi George,

I might just add to the discussion of the filming of this event to say this.
I think that 'being there' is preferable to not being there from the
perspective that students will be able to ask questions, etc. I am not sure
what the price of the 'vodcast' will be - but it will not be the same as the
'attend' price. I will have more information on this soon, but it will be
priced as a school price (so that a teacher could purchase it for their
class). The vodcast will primarily be used by regional Vic and those
schools that have a large contingent going to Swinburne Open day. The catch
22 is that if everyone bails out of attending the event based on the
availability of the vodcast - there will be no vodcast. In cases like this
one, the attendance of Metro students helps VITTA help regional students -
and the more metro students were have, the more economical the production of
the vodcast will be.

Worst case scenario, if we don't have enough registrations for the event and
we have to cancel, I will arrange for us to create some straight to video
vodcasts that all schools can access - and will revisit this idea with more
info if this happens.

Cheers,

Adrian

That's good news.
Can I ask a few questions though? $35.00 for an hour session? Is this the
norm/a bit rich? Do you expect students to pay for this or do schools
subsidize this for their students? How many students do you expect will
attend these sessions?
And given this what would be the approximate cost of the video - it may be
worth using this rather than going there live even though we are in the
city. Presuming that it will be released asap post event.

Thanks in advance
George

I would like to take my IP applications class to the Exam Prep day, but
being from a country school in Trafalgar, My question is why only 1
hour. We don't have a systems or a VET class, so when the travel time is
4 times the length of the presentation, and to take a bus down we are
looking at costs of ~ $50 per student. For a hour revision session, I
don't think I can sell that to my students first, and then the parents
of my students who are going to have to shell out money.

A poser just occurred to me as I plan budgets for next year: if we buy
iPads, would they count as *computers* in the annual school ICT
inventory
(and therefore count towards DEECD's planned 1:1 ratio of year 9-12
students
per computer)?
