[Year 12 IT Apps] OT - De facto student free day

Hi Robert,
Yes, due to the extreme wet ground, the Moe Cup was ran at Cranbourne (also
will get more Melb. people involved) but they still had their Moe Cup Day 3
hour sale, and after that most of the town shuts up shop. All the schools
used to have the day off - now the staff have to turn-up.
They are running a bigger than normal race tomorrow at Moe to make-up for
the missed opportunity and many of the students are going. It is good to see
them around the town all dressed up (before they get too drunk).
Having the Melb. Cup run on a Monday would stop the "4-day weekend" that
many students think they have.

Hi Judee,
Interesting figures about your "local cup" day. I am no longer living
permanently in the Valley, I oscillate between Yinnar and Richmond. However
I understood from the LV Express online that the Moe Cup was cancelled due
to the recent heavy rains :-)
Just shows though that the Dept/Govt is not in tune with what is actually
happening. Why not tell the racing fraternity that Melbourne Cup Day will
henceforth be on the first Monday in November, or just cancel the public
holiday :-) ( As Jeff did for Show Day)
