[Year 12 IT Apps] Those email "footnotes"

Hi Robert,
I still state it is legal.
"My original question was about the specific sentence "You must not disclose
or use the information in this email if you are not the intended
recipient.""
Which is part of a copyright statement - and as I understand it - you can if
you own the copyright restrict an emails distribution. The following is an
extract from www.copyright.com.au which I posted last time.
"Copyright does not prevent the disclosure of information or the use of that
information so long as that use is within the copyright laws."
It can.
Can I forward emails containing copyright material?
If you forward an email containing copyright material to a third party you
may be infringing
copyright. This is because forwarding an email constitutes a communication
to the public. So
before forwarding any email that has been sent to you, you should check it
for a copyright
statement, or if none exists, it may be wise to seek permission from the
owner of the
copyright material contained in the email.
Is your work protected?
Copyright is free and automatic. You don't have to pay for it and you don't
have to ask for it. The moment you create your work it is protected by
copyright (provided it is sufficiently original). In Australia, copyright
protection will usually last until 70 years after the death of the creator.
This protection extends to almost all material found on the internet.
Material that is copyright
protected includes:
. written material - including e-books, website text, newspaper articles,
emails, computer
programs and song lyrics;
What are my rights?
The Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000 gives copyright owners
certain exclusive
rights for the electronic use of their materials.
These include:
. the right to reproduce the material eg: print the material or save it onto
a disk; and
. the right to communicate the material to the public eg: post the material
on a website, or
email the material to other parties.
"I decide to forward Fred's email to lots of other people."
Under the Act you also have the right to pursue legal action against any
individual that infringes your copyright. From 2007, penalties for
infringement of digital copyright protection
measures will increase in severity.
Regards
Malcolm

My original question was about the specific sentence "You must not disclose
or use the information in this email if you are not the intended recipient."
Copyright does not prevent the disclosure of information or the use of that
information so long as that use is within the copyright laws.
So I get an email from Fred, that was not intended for me. But that email
contains information about some weird activities by Bert.
The email contains a footer saying
"You must not disclose or use the information in this email if you are not
the intended recipient."
I decide to forward Fred's email to lots of other people.
