Apologies if I missed a posting about this but, is anyone running revision
lectures for ITapps during the term break. I am having my students in for
one day but it seems that maybe one of my pupils is interested in attending
a more 'formalised' version of this.
If you can point out any being run, I'd be glad to receive details please.
Ironically it seems that this one would like to see an alternative.(he
doesnt pay attention in my classes anyway so it could benefit him).
Will be doing past exam papers and topic summaries when in for the day
during the break anyway (for those who turn up).
KB.

ps.. Anyone out there whos a maths teacher that specialises in STATS? I'm
doing online studies and my next (last) unit is Stats and I'm looking for
resources for next term. Book suggestions welcome, will be in Melbourne
during the break for a day or 2 and can make purchases where suitable. Any
suggestions welcomed. Online website refs also welcomed. Its the
GradCertMaths at ACU for those curious...If anyone has seen a flyer
promoting it for next year..be warned, if you have no or minimum maths
background, you WILL find it hard yakka! Its designed to prepare you to take
VCE maths and it takes you quite a bit higher than that level during the
year with the Calculus and Geometry units. Semester 1 is really hard yakka,
Semester 2 you kinda get used to the high standard by then and its still
hard but easier to handle.

A book which has learning activities, you can purchase a site license which
you can then upload pdfs to intranets etc.

Its called "Creating Dynamic content using PHP & MySQL"

My year 11's are working with it at the moment, I plan to use it in SofDev
next year.

How easy to learn is PHP? Havent used it but am interested/keen to find out
more about it as a potential classroom language. Have found VB6 pretty easy
to pick up having just learned it this semester. ie PHP for a 'self learner'
to then teach it. No, I dont mean the idiots guide to PHP, coz I'm no
idiot!

Considering offering it to my kids..(the keen ones!)

FYI below .. Interesting to read how users can register to participate for
free in the online activities. Certainly worth considering if you are not
going to this event in Adelaide.

Some of you may have heard of the siMERR activity jointly run by VITTA and
the ICTEV with some resources and activities published online by President
Adrian.

Dear Colleague

Thank you to the 65 plus who have already registered for the National
Computing Studies Summit being held on October 4, 5. If you already
registered please forward this email on to your colleagues.

A reminder that ALL registrations close on Friday 21 September. To register
go to www.acce.edu.au/events/simerr .

To participate you can attend the Summit in Adelaide OR you can be part of
it as an online delegate. Participation in Adelaide costs only $60, online
participation is FREE. Note that online participants will access most
sessions. For details of the program visit
www.acce.edu.au/item.asp?pid=1217.

Be part of the future by joining colleagues at the Summit to explore and
discuss ways of delivering high quality computing studies programs to all
students regardless of where they live in Australia. Hear about how systems
and individual teachers are implementing exciting strategies for open
learning/distance education in computing studies.

If you are a teacher of senior secondary computing studies then you should
be part of this Summit. The Summit is part of a national project being
conducted by the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE) with
funding from National Centre of Science, Information and Communication
Technology and Mathematics Education for Rural and Regional Australia
(SiMERR).

Full details of the Summit are at the ACCE website - www.acce.edu.au
