Hi Mark,
The best way is to use a query:

1. create a query based on the table, select the field you want to do a
count of , eg customer 
2. in design mode, display totals (click S on the toolbar)  this will
add a row labelled Total: and the default setting will be Group By
3. click and drag this field a second time but change the setting from
Group By to Count
4. at this stage you should get a display of the customer and how many
occurances his names appears
5. in design mode, sort by Descenting order and
6. display properties and set Top values to 1 (can also be a
percentages)

you can also use this as the record source for a form or a report, but
it will only show the top 1 record.

list of names then provide the name of the most numerous one. Any ideas
would be appreciated.
