Try separating the cell reference and the text with & and quotes
=b2 & " is doing well"

hi
i hope this is not too silly a question
im trying to get excel to do something fairly simple but i keep coming
unstuck
i want it to insert a name from a colum into a line of text
a simple cell reference will insert the name but as soon as u add other text
u get an error message

any ideas out there?
