Well said Robin,
I agree totally. I thought the VCE was suppose to be achievable for all students. We are now making it too much like a first year Uni course, lets refine the study design by improving the sections that are vague and not add more complicated expectations.
We need to consider the students well being their is too much repartition in the folio contents and the page numbers have double over the years. Lets not forget we are working with young people who are not all going to get into the design industry.
Cheers, David

Hi all,
We are all busy but will only have ourselves to blame if we don't respond to
the new draft study design document.
There are issues that I am not happy with eg.
- How can we expect students to perform a LCA on the product they
make ? This is making the study design harder, unlike Food Studies that made
it more appropriate to what teachers and students wanted.
- It is now acceptable to make a prototype for units 1 - 4 ! but a
toile isn't accepted as a prototype. Doesn't seem fair for textiles
students. Some prototypes could be total rubbish and take no time to finish
. and in the Product design process it is only one of the steps not the
final step.
- 7Ps now in Ps of marketing - is it in line with Business
Management Study Design and if not how confusing. Where did that come from
not from common sense.
- How does a student decide how to mass produce the final product
once it's made, that seems crazy and again just gives them extra work when
we have one off and low volume production not just mass production (at least
mass production is back as is planned obsolescence that gets my vote)
- 3 end users need to be approached in the final evaluation . How
does my current student find 3 end users when he is from Zimbabwe and made
it to suit the needs and wants of his mother who is his client. Are we now
totally discouraging this type of innovation and creativity ?
- No client by the way only end user - don't like that.
Oh and the original mess up that resulted in Units 1 & 2 having a 3 part
evaluation criteria and Unit 3 & 4 having a 4 part hasn't been fixed.
The Product design process wheel still doesn't reflect the wording in the
study design closely enough.
So have your say or we can only reflect on what could have been.

Robin

Hi Dean
Is there a new addition of the textbook for 2017?
The changes to the study design are only minor, I am wondering if there is a
need for students to buy the new textbook?
Regards
Liz

Jo,
They still appeared on my booklists which came directly from our college
organiser at my school. I know there are some minor changes to the study
design from unit 1-4 as per the emails the other week.
I wonder if the study design changes are reflective in the text and
workbooks for 2017?
Dean.

Hi All
Does anyone know why Campion isn't listing the Livett / O'Leary textbook for
next year?
Thanks,
Jo
