[Informatics] TED talk about big data

But every day’s a good day with paint! The scary thing for me is that a student in my 2012 Software class brought in the Melodysheep version of “The Joy of Painting” on Youtube, and halfway through I flashed back to watching Bob Ross on Channel 8 as a three-year old … we called coding errors “happy little accidents” for the rest of the year.

Thanks, Natalie.

As for the insomnia, try watching 'The Joy of Painting' by Bob Ross. Knocks me out every time :-)

Hi everyone,

I stumbled on this during a bout of insomnia and it’s really good. I’ll be showing my students. Do watch the whole thing - she has some great advice relevant to data collection, data treatment, the importance of a clear hypothesis…

The TED blurb (more eloquent than I at nearly 1am…):
Does a set of data make you feel more comfortable? More successful? Then your interpretation of it is likely wrong. In a surprisingly moving talk, Susan Etlinger explains why, as we receive more and more data, we need to deepen our critical thinking skills. Because it's hard to move beyond counting things to really understanding them.
