HI Jane,
We also had the same thing happen to us and we, unfortunately, had to
pay for the books. I'm sure there is fine print that says if you pass
the return date, then the items are to be paid for. We have made staff
here aware that there will be no items accepted on approval at all, it's
either sent straight back or we say no on the phone. Where you stand
legally, I am also not sure.

Does anyone know the legal standing on a school accepting goods "On
Approval". There are three scenarios on which I would like
clarification.
1. Goods are sent out "On Approval" to a school and
then distributed to the appropriate faculty for perusal - no formal
request from the school.
2. Goods are sent out "On Approval" after a staff
member has been contacted by phone by the company and asked if they
would like to see the goods first. The initial contact was from the
company.
3. Goods are sent out "On Approval" from the staff
member's request, having seen the goods at a conference, show etc.
We are having a disagreement with a company from Scenario 2 and I would
like to know where we stand as the return time limit is up and they are
wanting payment. Unfortunately it is always the office that cops the
irate phone calls not the teaching staff.
