Either the staff member should give you permission to provide the
information or you ask the caller to provide the details that they have
been given by the employee and then give a yes or no answer to them.
For example, if they want salary details, the employee will have given
this to the financier.  Ask what figure has been given and either say
yes it is correct or no it is not.

I am looking for information on privacy issues related to financial
institutions ringing to do a check on an employee?  How do you confirm
who is calling, and is it ok to provide information in this way?  How do
you handle these calls?
