Yes Noleen,

We have had several instances in the past where that was the case - and
the teachers lost their family leave as a result - but the wording on
the HR A-Z seems far from clear on that point now, and I am not sure
what are the current rules. I am reluctant to take the HR statement as
read - because of the impact it could have on the staff if it is
incorrect.

Hi Helen, 

 

We were in that position last year and were advised by region that the
teacher could resume for no more than 2 terms and retain her family
leave balance. If they returned for more than 2 terms they were then
deemed to have returned permanently from family leave.

We have a teacher who is asking re a temporary resumption from family
leave - I have checked HR  a-z but the info does not detail what I
understood was the position (my previous experience) - so maybe the
rules have changed - which is why I have this on the chat line-

 

Previously I thought that a teacher could only undertake a temporary
resumption in a non advertised less than six month position - because if
they worked for a longer period they were deemed to have returned to
work and were therefore unable to return to the family leave balance
relating to that child.

 

Hope this makes sense

 

Feel it is important that the teacher is aware of the implications on
their family leave, of returning to work.
