Unit 4 Outcome 2 IP&M - 2003
Formulate and
justify strategies for developing, implementing and evaluating a networked
information system in response to a social, economic or technological impetus
for change.
This outcome will contribute 40 marks out of
the 100 marks allocated to School-assessed Coursework for Unit 4. It will be
assessed by one task.
Task
Description
· A written report
or
·
A test
or
·
A visual
presentation (presentation file, poster).
Designing the assessment task
Teachers should design an assessment task that allows the
student to:
· identify the reasons for changing an existing system, and propose and justify strategies for a new or modified networked information system, in response to the results of an analysis of the system and the proposed design. The analysis must incorporate the objectives of the new information system
·
apply
the development, implementation and evaluation stages of the systems
development life cycle
·
propose
project management strategies to assist with the implementation of the proposed
system
·
have
the opportunity to demonstrate the highest level of performance.
Resources and scheduling
Schools may
determine the conditions for the task including access to resources and notes.
Students should be advised of the timeline and conditions under which the task
is to be conducted.
Performance descriptors
The following descriptors provide a guide to the standards expected when setting and marking assessment tasks. They describe the knowledge and skills typically demonstrated by students who have achieved scores within each range on the assessment task/s.
Outcome 2 Formulate and
justify strategies for developing, implementing and evaluating a networked
information system in response to a social, economic or technology impetus
for change. |

33–40 marks |
All facts are accurately interpreted to correctly
identify and classify the impetus for change. A clear system objective
statement is provided. A complete set
of criteria, which are logically connected to the system objectives, are
proposed for selecting the equipment components and for evaluating the
success of the information system. The criteria take into account all factors
affecting the feasibility of alternative equipment components. All appropriate
factors affecting the implementation of the proposed change are identified,
as well as the key tasks associated with the implementation stage. All relevant aspects of coordinating the implementation of the system
are identified in a project management plan, and appropriate techniques are
used to accurately document these aspects. The proposed
evaluation methods enable all relevant data to be acquired for each
criterion. All methods are fully explained. A complete justification is provided, detailing how
each strategy will enable the objectives of the new or modified information
system to be met. The reasons provided are defensible and sound. |

Most facts are accurately interpreted to correctly
identify and classify the impetus for change. A system objective statement is
provided. The set of
criteria for selecting the equipment components and for evaluating the
success of the information system are closely connected to most of the system
objectives. The criteria consider most of the factors affecting the
feasibility of alternative equipment components. Most factors
affecting the implementation of the proposed change are identified, as well
as the key tasks associated with the implementation stage. Most aspects of coordinating the implementation of
the system are identified in a project management plan, and generally
appropriate techniques are used to document these aspects. The proposed
evaluation methods enable most relevant data to be acquired for each
criterion. Most methods are fully explained. A sound, but partially incomplete justification is
provided of how the proposed strategies will enable the successful
introduction of a new or modified networked information system. Most
strategies are fully supported and are directly linked to the objectives of
the new or modified system. |

Some facts
have been overlooked when determining the nature and classification of the
impetus for change. A brief system objective statement is provided. Some
relevant criteria for selecting the equipment components and for evaluating
the success of the information system are proposed; however, the connections
to the system objectives are not always coherent. This criteria considers
some of the factors affecting the feasibility of alternative equipment components.
Some
relevant factors affecting the implementation of the proposed change are
identified, as well as some tasks associated with the implementation stage. A restricted
list of aspects for coordinating the
implementation of the system are identified in a project management plan. The
documentation of the project plan contains some inaccuracies. The
evaluation methods enable some relevant data to be acquired for each
criterion. The explanation of some methods is adequate. An
incomplete justification is provided of how the proposed strategies will
enable the successful introduction of a new or modified networked information
system. Some strategies are supported; however, some are not closely linked
to the objectives of the new or modified system. |

Some facts
are interpreted incorrectly resulting in an inaccurate statement of the
nature or classification of the impetus for change. The system objective
statement is not coherently linked to the results of the analysis and design. Limited
criteria for selecting the equipment components and for evaluating the
success of the information system are proposed. Some factors
affecting the implementation of the proposed change are identified, and few
key tasks are associated with the implementation stage are listed. The project
plan identifies some relevant aspects
for coordinating the implementation of the system. The techniques used to
document these aspects are sometimes inappropriate or contains inaccuracies. The
evaluation methods enable some data to be acquired for most of the criteria.
The explanation of some methods is brief and reveals some misunderstandings
of theory. The
reasons described as to how the proposed strategies will enable the new or
modified networked information system to be introduced lack coherence and
detail. |

Errors exist
in the interpretation of facts and attempts to identify the impetus of change
and its classification reveal misunderstandings of theory. No system
objective statement is provided. Little or no
criteria for selecting the equipment components and for evaluating the
success of the information system are proposed. A limited
range of factors affecting the implementation of the proposed change are
identified, and a few tasks are associated with the implementation stage are
listed. Limited aspects of coordinating the implementation of the system are
identified. The techniques used to document these aspects are generally
inappropriate or contains inaccuracies. The limited
evaluation methods will restrict the data gathering process. Superficial
explanations are provided for the proposed methods. Few
reasons are described as to how the proposed strategies will enable the new
or modified networked information system to be introduced, and the
descriptions reveals some inaccuracies or misunderstandings. |
