Don't need to know too much about flash to understand this (just a few basic concepts). This site explains the process in an informal way and doesn't drag on, which is good.

Solve the problem of talking to movie clips that are nested within each other. This tutorial was tricky, and requires a bit more knowledge about flash. It is longer than many of the others. It also has diagrams, but no sample files. However, it does have a little test at the end, where you could check your knowledge by answering a question. It is very helpful.
