Dear Colleagues, (apologies for the cross posting)

Some of you may be aware that for the last four years I have been working
on a couple of Commonwealth projects to support mathematics teachers online
through the *Connect with Maths* communities and National Literacy and
Numeracy Week.

I have recently joined the LifeJourney team to work with Australian
teachers on this valuable *Day of STEM* resource. The program is free for
schools, is designed to inspire and to showcase the importance of STEM core
and contemporary skills for future careers.

There are extensive STEM career paths available in the Australian
workplace, some commonly not known about. The Day of STEM program has an
Australian context with a strong collaboration and support by Australian
STEM industries.

The Day of STEM Cup and Australia 2020 journeys are open now for schools.
School can register today and nominate when they wish to undertake the Day
of STEM journeys. There are entry levels for teachers, students and
parents. I have included the latest newsletter for your information.

Two exciting new programs will be added to the Day of STEM platform in
February to mark the beginning of Term 1 2017. The Women in STEM program
explores the careers of six industry-leading female mentors in health-care,
financial services, information technology and business consulting. The
Optus Cyber Security Experience will take an inside look at the growing
field of cyber security through a range of different careers and
situations. Teachers, students, parents and schools will now have four
unique Day of STEM programs to choose from depending on their preference,
grade level, subject type and interests.

Experienced education leader Renée Hoareau has joined the Day of STEM team
in Australia as the Director, Education & Engagement. Renée's
responsibilities include supporting schools and teachers across Australia
to implement Day of STEM programs in the classroom. Renée will also lead
relationships with Day of STEM's partner organisations, including
professional societies and teacher associations.

The winners of the inaugural 2016 Collingwood STEM Cup have participated in
a unique experience at the Holden Centre to get a behind the scenes look at
how statistics and data analysis inform recruitment and performance
strategy. The Collingwood STEM Cup is a national online mathematics
competition, held during the AFL season, that allows students, teachers and
fans to experience a "day in the life" of Dominic Milesi, the 'Capologist'
at the Collingwood Football Club.

Schedule your Day of STEM Day, by letting us know when you plan to run the
experience in your class. All schools that submit their date will be added
to the Day of STEM National Calendar. We encourage all teachers who have
already scheduled their Day of STEM to activate their accounts and become
