If this is just a short fill in for the end the year, go for the robo
wars!
We use the basic RCX kits. Kids use touch sensors/motors gears etc. I
set up a rink using 150mmx12mm pine boards to make a enclosure of 2.4m x
1.8m ish.
Kids set them going and its last man standing/moving wins. Usually about
4-6 machines/robos in the rink. Some of the good kids work out that its
the programming that enables them to attack and defend.
I have also found that a bag of snakes to the winning team increases
motivation enormously!
Cheers

Perhaps a project which challenges them to investigate commercial
multi-axis robotics and to construct and mimic some of the actions used
in a production/professional environments. Typically these are welding,
milling type machines(usually of a point to point type). Maybe they
could then synchronize several robots to music as a challenge!! Seen
some really cute and excellently done examples of this on you tube by
major japanese producers..really cool stuff!
my 2c worth for ya!

Hi Everybody,
I'm looking for ideas and resources for advanced year 10 students for a
robotics unit. Specifically, a major programming (the focus is on
programming rather than mechanics) task that wraps everything up. We
don't
have a huge length of time, so soccerbots or killbots are likely out of
the
question, and the students have already done a project following a line
from
one place to another. Any ideas or pointers are appreciated.
Cheers,
Victor Rajewski
