[Yr7-10it] Mac Units

Yes I now generally do use OSX and it really doesn't matter, I can jump
between Linux Ubuntu, XP and OSX (we use VirtualBox VM's). Some of the
students are reluctant to change but I think it does them good. For my first
year 11 VCE outcome, I mandated OSX and after a couple of vocal grumbles
they settled down and got their work done without any further drama, the
wiser and none the poorer.

Oddly enough I suspect that girls learning IT are better at adapting when
switching between different operating systems. I have some thoughts about
this but will keep it to myself for now. I guess that what we think of as an
IT savy student is often confused with somebody who has just memorised a
familiar pattern of clicks to change a setting or access a funciton. If
familiarity does breed contempt, then by creating this cognitive dissidence,
I will very probably be helping them all learn IT.
