Onya Ros .. web accounts like Gmail are certainly the way to go! As a rule I
leave email by my department of education employer alone for official e-mail
from them. It saves getting distracted by the more readable and engaging
stuff that happens here. ;-)

I have even been doing a lot of document collaboration and sharing with the
Google Docs tool. It was fun working together on the same document to
develop a list of software to include on our new iMac computers. As quickly
as I was bashing together the list on my laptop in one room, the typos were
being fixed by somebody else in another and my technician was downloading
the apps in the file server room. Tonight we used the google calendar to
organise some adhoc meetings of our technical staff and apprentices before
the end of the term break. With Firefox GoogleGears, much of this can be
locally cached so I can access and edit files offline  :-)

Some of the teachers that have left working for DEECD and our school have
asked for a way to backup their old mail before their work account dies. We
now create a gmail account, move across all their old mail and give them the
keys. It is easy to configure these accounts so that you can take on the
identify of another e-mail account when authoring a message.
