A bit more on this $10 laptop form India unveiled earlier this week

As it happens it's not a laptop, nor is it $10. It is a small computer
"box" to which a keyboard and monitor can be attached. And its more
like $30.

This is not all bad however - kyb and screens last a long time and
don't change much technically - at least compared to computers.

Maybe this could produce a model where schools provide keyboards,
screens, internet access and central services while students own the
computer (and one like this is at least as portable as a conventional
laptop so it could travel with the student)?
