More Australian researchers reusing research data more often.
The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) aims to:
inform best practice for the curation of data
transform the disparate collections of research data around Australia
into a cohesive collection of research resources
influence national policy in the area of data management in the
Australian research community
ANDS Community Bulletin Board
An online discussion space has been created by ANDS to provide an
environment for people to discuss issues around data sharing and data
management.
ANDS Roadshow
ANDS will be visiting all capital cities to hold workshops and events
between September 2009 and May 2010.
ANDS releases first issue of 'Share: the newsletter of the Australian
National Data Service'
The Australian National Data Service (ANDS) is pleased to announce the
release of the first issue of Share: the newsletter of the Australian
National Data Service.
ANDS attracts new funding
In the recent Federal budget ANDS was allocated $48 million from the
Education Investment Fund (EIF) to create and develop an Australian
Research Data Commons research infrastructure. In the coming months ANDS
will be consulting with the sector on the final form that this project
will take. A preliminary version of our intended focus areas is now
available.
The long term (ten year) objectives for data management within the
Australian National Data Service (ANDS) are to:
Transform collections of Australian research data into a cohesive
network of research repositories
Assist Australian research data managers to become experts in creating,
managing and sharing research data under well formed and maintained data
management policies
Increase the amount of research data that is routinely deposited into
stable, accessible and sustainable data management and preservation
environments
Provide opportunities for people to develop expertise in data management
across research communities and institutions
Enable researchers to find and access any relevant data in the
Australian 'data commons'
Enable Australian researchers to discover, exchange, reuse and combine
data from other researchers and other domains within their own research
in new ways
Facilitate the sharing of Australian data to support international and
nationally distributed multidisciplinary research teams
The ANDS Project Partners are: Monash University, The Australian National
University, CSIRO and the Australian Commonwealth Government.
ANDS is funded by the Australian Commonwealth Government's Department of
Innovation, Industry, Science and Research (DIISR). The funding has been
provided through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure
Strategy (NCRIS) as part of the Platforms for Collaboration Investment
Plan.
In mid-2009 ANDS was further funded by the Education Investment Fund
(EIF) for the establishment of the Australian Research Data Commons under
the Super Science Initiative.
