[Yr7-10it] neverwinter nights

I’m working with it for the first time this Semester in a Year 10 elective subject called IT Programming.
So far, the kids love it!
The idea is to focus on the process rather than on the content with this game (very VELSian), I’ve started by getting them to learn the Toolset by applying it to a simple storyline that I’ve created. They are required to draw a flowchart of the storyline and apply the functions and logic using the built in C based scripting language called NWScript.
I have a class which contains 9 out of 10 internationals, most with very little English and I am finding that the RPG element is very engaging for them. It also allows them to learn English in a really hands on way.
I’ve discovered that the game has modern and oriental “haks” allowing the user to change the environment to a modern or Asian streetscape (rather than the standard medieval one), I’ve heard there are also Western and Anime “haks”. The possibilities are limitless, especially for subjects like English and Humanities as the game is based heavily on narrative.
I’ll keep you up to date with developments.

Subject: [Yr7-10it] neverwinter nights
Hi,
I've been reading about an adaptation of the game Neverwinter nights for educational purposes:
HYPERLINK "http://www.alteredlearning.com"http://www.alteredlearning.com and HYPERLINK "http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/6254989.stm"http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/6254989.stm
Does anyone know if there are any schools in Australia that have played (pun intended) with this? Or anything similar?
ciao
vik
