Hi everyone,

Last year VITTA held a very successful Careers in ICT expo at Xavier College
and this year we will be holding one again (during ICT week) at Melbourne
High School.  It will be held on Saturday 2nd August from 10am to 4pm.

 

I have always felt that one of the ways that we can help promote our subject
(which we are all so passionate about) is through events such as this - that
really show the community that there is value in an ICT career and that job
prospects are indeed extremely healthy.  

 

I know that many of us have experienced a drop in enrolments over the last
several years and we have all been quite frustrated by this.  As VITTA
President, and speaking for the rest of the committee, we are passionate
about doing what we can to get the positive message across and reverse
enrolment trends.  I feel that the message needs to be sent to our middle
school students primarily.  The core of the issue is the perception that our
students have of the ICT industry, the types of jobs available and the job
prospects.  An important addition factor is the attitude of the parents -
who still perceive the ICT industry post .COM crash.

 

This event is completely free and will give your students and/or classes
exposure to presentations by top ICT professionals employed in a wide range
of positions.  It will give your students access to all the course
information from every tertiary provider in the state.  We will also be
pitching a number of lectures for parents (including a presentation that I
will give citing the latest job stats, and a panel of ICT professionals
available to answer questions).

 

Please don't miss out on this opportunity.  If you can't bring your class
personally, then please pass this information on so that your students can
register for the event and come with their parents.  If you are from one of
the regions and wish to bring your class, get in contact with the VITTA
office as we are organising transport based on demand (again - completely
free of cost).
