Hi Paula,
Just read your response to David..What about the growth as mentioned elsewhere about students taking up the outdoor ed subjects-thats booming here in the rural locale. BM is dying off, Accounting is 'off campus' with 6 students I think(not sure on this one).
The girls are big in the psych, maths, textiles, health ed. OD ed up here. Got some smart cookies too!
Also, as a point of stats..last year for me...15 students..2 girls in that mix(y12)
This year?
VCE y11...7 boys
y12..3 boys
Y10 12 boys 1 girl (she's gives as good as she gets! The boys dont mess with her!)
Y9 2 classes about 10 girls all up off the top of my head, think it might be a bit less but not sure without my role in front of me just now)
7/8 classes...balanced mix...its compulsory here at these levels.
Kent.

Hi David

Business Management and Psychology are two subjects that have
experienced considerable growth in the past couple of years. Regarding
IT enrolments, the decline from 2006 - 07 has tapered so I am hoping
that this year might see a plateau. Also, over the past seven years the
percentage of girls doing VCE IT has decreased significantly.

Hi everyone,

I have just subscribed to this list and this is my first post. I am a
final year Education student studying at QUT in Queensland.

I am following this thread with great interest as this is our area of
study at the moment - falling numbers in IT especially girls. Looking
at the enrollment statistics (in Queensland) it seems that alot of the
students are doing HPE (sport) and a large number of the girls are doing
Visual Arts. Maybe the IT subjects are not creative enough for the
female students.

I would be interested to know what the situation is in other schools.
What subjects are they doing instead of IT? What is it about IT that is
turning them away?

Look forward to reading your opinions.

Cheers
David
